Upon check in, the lady who dealt with me took my passport and credit card details, gave me a key and a map and that was it. When I located the bungalow (not easy even with a map, especially as it late and very dark) I found that the room had not been serviced. I had to go back to reception, where I waited to speak to the same lady, she ignored me and asked another British couple if she could help them, the man said ' that lady has been waiting longer than us ' and the receptionist waved her hand in my direction - dismissing me and continued to deal with them.
I then explained that the room she had put me had dirty sheets and towels i.e. had not been cleaned since the last person used it. She said I had to contact reception one day in advance to request the room be cleaned?!
Various other people came in and they all agreed that this could not be correct but she insisted and when I continued to say that it was not acceptable, she said there was nothing she could do except speak to her boss tomorrow. I told her I would not stay in that bungalow and needed to be placed in another and she said she could not do it, by now there were lots of people in reception - all agreed with me that it was disgusting! and that her attitude was terrible. She dealt with all of them, ignoring me.
Another couple then tried to speak to her about my situation and she then asked me again, for about the 5th or 6th time when I had checked and I again told her that she had checked me in about 20-30 minutes earlier. She finally, begrudgingly apologised that she had misunderstood?! and gave me another key!
The way she spoke to me and continually dismissed me, as if I was the one being unreasonable was absolutely disgusting behaviour.
The staff did not advise of how to get to the beach or where the nearest supermarket is (which, considering they do self catering would be useful) they did not advise of where the bar or restaurant were on the complex or anything.
The bungalows are very basic - what you would expect for the money - extremely dated and in need of some serious tlc. the first place I saw had bedside lamps and a ceiling fan but the second didn't even have these so it was main light in the evenings and although my visit was April and so bearable - without AC or fans I imagine it would be awful during the hotter months.
Don't expect anything like a hotel, there is no shampoo or soap or dishcloths or anything like that, just a bed with sheets and blankets in the cupboard, a few coathangers, towels in the shower/wc. You get a microwave, 2 x hobs, kettle, toaster and basic utensils in the kitchen area. sofa, tv (only sky news in English) and a balcony are with a plastic table and chairs.
The complex facilities were pools - all nice but despite stating it was not allowed, if you didn't claim a sunbed early, they were hard to get later in the day. A bar by one pool, which advertised as open from 9am til 8pm but was only open from 10.30am to 5.30pm - a soulless, half decorated place, not even music playing....like the rest of the place - in need of updating. There was also a shabby looking tennis court and football area and a basic gym and a launderette on site - none of which I used and I'm sure there would have been surcharges for all
The whole place felt sad and old and the staff were just uninterested.
Overall Fuerteventura is a nice place and reasonably priced but the bungalows at Castillo Beach are only worth what you pay, if you can afford to pay a bit more, do so.
