Bunya Mountains Accommodation Centre

The location is great. However it’s a real shame of the cleanliness and general upkeep of the houses. Do not go to the local cafe and tavern if you have any food allergy. The staff aren’t educated, nor do they know what is in the food they serve. I have a nut allergy and I couldn’t eat anything. An improvement or changeover of the general management of the properties would be a game changer.

Stayed at Restful Retreat for 4 nights in Bunya Mountains in July. Have stayed there before and never had any issues. It is a modern large house with lots of room for large families or groups. Unfortunately this time we encountered a couple of issues. Oven not working on arrival and unable to be fixed until the following week. Normal electrician unable to come up to the mountain to fix the oven due personal circumstances but no effort appeared to be made to try and call another electrician to see if they could come and fix it . We totally understand that it can be difficult to get tradies to come but this Left us with very limited options to cook and heat food for a large family gathering and remainder of our stay. . Accomodation centre did try and find a solution in allowing us to use another oven in a house in another part of the mountain but neither suitable or practical. Friends in a house next door did allow us limited access to their small oven but not ideal transferring hot food from one house to another especially at night over uneven ground. . No compensation offered by the owners for inconvenience caused and lack of a fully functioning kitchen as they felt that the offer to use another house kms away to cook food for our family gathering was a suitable solution. Restful Retreat was chosen for this stay because of its size and the walking distance to other houses family members were staying in. The mountain is dark and cold at night with very limited street lighting. No one wants to be driving to the next estate just to cook or heat food. Cleanliness of the house left a lot to be desired as we found three used nappies in the house during our stay …one left in the bathroom cabinet and two under one of the beds. Interestingly, the house was supposedly booked by the owners prior to our arrival. For the nightly tariff paid one expects the house to be in full functioning order and clean on arrival and if not due to circumstances outside their control the owners should consider reducing the nightly tariff as a gesture of good will to the guest who has been inconvenienced, not to mention having to pick up and remove dirty nappies from the house that the cleaners missed!!! Mind you maybe the previous guests should have done that themselves. The Bunya Mountains is such a beautiful place to visit. This will certainly not stop us from going back as we have been going there for over 20 yrs but will certainly be wary about choosing Restful Retreat to stay in again.

Mum & I stayed here for a 3 night mother-daughter getaway. The house was perfect. We spent a lot of time on the deck as the days were very hot (35C) and there was a beautiful breeze out there. The house is very well equipped, and I appreciated having undercover parking for the car as a lot of the other houses didn’t have undercover parking. It’s just a short walk to the tavern and cafe, and we went on a walk through the Bunya Mountains National Park. We were also lucky enough to see some fireflies along Bunya Avenue. We had lots of visits from hungry cockatoos, king parrots & crimson rosellas. Unfortunately there didn’t seem to be as many wallabies as when I was there 2 years ago. This was my third stay at the Bunyas and previously I stayed in different houses which were also great, however I will definitely stay at Wallaby Fiesta again.
