Mondrian Bordeaux les Carmes

This is a new hotel in a “different” area. Not a lot of nice shops, restaurants, etc nearby, but the hotel is beautiful. There’s a tram nearby that takes you into the city center. We booked a deluxe room with terrace. The room was small, but nice, and the terrace was just fantastic—so worth the extra price. The terrace is huge, and beautifully decorated—naturally makes the room feel so much larger. Given this is a new hotel, you’d expect the AC to work fine—it did not. After several calls for them to fix it, they never did. Just did not put out cool air, and we were there when it wasn’t that hot. But not having cool air at night made it difficult to sleep. Restaurant was nice, but was hoping for more of a French food one than Japanese. Food good, service and décor just ok.

It is a beautiful hotel with all the fine luxury details centrally located walking distance to the beautiful center of Bordeaux.

Beautiful posh hotel with beautiful rooms. The indoor swimming pool is stunning. Morimoto restaurant is excellent. The historical building and the Philippe Starck design makes it really special. The service is impeccable. The outdoor garden is a great spot to have lunch.

This hotel knows all about hospitality and puts it into practice. We were looked after from the moment we drove in through the entrance. This applied to the valets, reception staff and restaurant staff at dinner and breakfast. We enjoyed every moment. My husband has limited mobility and this was never a problem at the hotel. A new luxury hotel in Bordeaux town with an excellent spa and a Japanese restaurant with a good wine list. Designed by French architect Philippe Starck, it is owned by Les Carmes Haut-Brion, one of the most exciting producers in contemporary Bordeaux. Hotel is well located within a walking distance to the cafes, design and antique shops in Chartrons.

Welcoming staff. Small bedrooms and even smaller showeroom. No proper bar. Incompetemt barman- does not know what a malt is! No proper sitting lounge i.e. three small tables/chairs (when we were there one of them was occupied by a hotel manageress who first was lowdly discussing the wine list with a suplier and then, the salary of a potential new employee!
