The Hummingbird

Absolutely amazing! Eco conscious spot with a stellar pool, amazing food & drinks and jungle sheik accommodations. Betsy and Gary are super helpful with whatever you need...want to set up a tour?, need a recommendation?, need a taxi at 2am?, need identification of flowers/plants/animals?, they've got you covered. Easily the best restaurant and bar in Bluff (or all of Bocas?!) Incredible grounds, top notch local staff, a plethora of flora and fauna. Look no further than the hummingbird for a mind blowing Bluff experience. 10/10. Do not hesitate to stay/eat/drink. You won't be disappointed. Incredible!

This was my second visit to this beautiful property which was unfortunately ruined by the white male British owner who became rude and verbally violent when I challenged his outdated colonial notions of Indigenous Panamanians. After I brought it to her attention, his lovely wife was kind enough to apologize for him (since he lacked the cultural humility to do so himself) but my short (yet fairly pricey) stay was already ruined, so I regret I won't be returning to The Hummingbird and encouraging other people of color or self-expressed women to stay away. This was meant to be a healing experience for me, but it was anything but. Sadly, this is not a safe space for women of color and I can't recommend it. There are plenty other beautiful places on the island.

We had a wonderful experience here. Too bad there were only 3 nights available. They did everything right on this property. The rooms are in itself a delight. In fact, the entire property is a delight. The Bluff beach was perfect for us - long, beautiful and pristine beach. Great breakfasts and good food in the evenings at the restaurant. It is perfect for couples and those wanting peace, quiet, nature and beauty surrounding them. Planning to go again, this time for longer.

My husband and I spent 12 days in Panama, finishing the last 3 nights at the Hummingbird on Bluff Beach. This was a perfect end to our trip. Betsy, Gary, and Oso made our trip an absolute dream. Our stay was relaxing and rejuvenating. We enjoyed time by the pool and beach. There are chairs and towels available to take across the street to the beach (though not a beach for any swimming as the waves are pretty big and you can visibly see the rip current). You basically have the beach to yourself. Falling asleep each night to the sound of the waves was absolutely perfect. We did come during rainy/off season, but had excellent weather during the day, and could listen to a couple storms at night! Some of the other nearby restaurants/B&Bs were actually closed during this time, but that did not present us any issues. Rooms were very clean and exactly as pictured. There is a small fridge with water that's refilled daily, as well as a safe. The large fan kept us cool at night. There are some walking trails around the property. We went on a walk each day and saw some monkeys one day, and 2 different types of sloths! There are, of course, plenty of birds to be seen, as well! The restaurant at the Hummingbird is top notch. We enjoyed an amazing breakfast (complimented by the local hot sauce, of which we bought 3 bottles to bring home). We tried to make it back for Happy Hour when we could to grab a snack and cocktail! The Argentinian BBQ was the highlight! Get there early as it's a full house! While this is a more remote location, we were able to walk to a couple other bars/restaurants nearby. We did also walk to Paunch Beach, though a little lengthier of a walk. Walking all the way to town is probably a little too far. There are small buses that run and we were able to take those for $2-3/person each way (they did try to charge us more once, but we had taken the bus earlier that day and knew what the appropriate fee was).

An amazing location and even more amazing hosts. Betsy, Gary, Osa (dog) and the rest of the staff truly made our stay here special. They are extremely accommodating and helpful. The on-site restaurant is extremely good and the property is simply beautiful. Highly recommend! So peaceful.

We can’t say enough great things about the Hummingbird B&B. We had a wonderful 2 week stay. From the moment you walk thru the yellow gate you won’t be disappointed. The owners- Gary and Betsy are still the most welcoming hosts on the planet. The entire staff is always smiling and there for the guests. The property is absolutely gorgeous with all types of plants, flowers, and trees. There are sloths, monkeys, and trees on the property!! The food is fabulous- you never have to leave the property for dinner except on Sunday when the restaurant is closed. The pool is very clean and inviting. The beach is just across the road and you fall asleep to the sound of the waves. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this property!!

Betsy, Gary, and their staff are awesome hosts. Betsy especially goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect. The on site restaurant is good, and there are two other restaurants within a five minute walk.

If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation, you enjoy listening to the crashing waves and you have an appreciation for nature’s beauty as well as animals the Hummingbird is just for you. Just 25 minutes outside of Bocas Town you will be greeted by the most welcoming hosts you could ask for - Betsy, Gary and Osa (sweet rescue dog). The hosts help with organizing excursions in Bocas del Toro or you can enjoy the amazing, off-the-grid property by hanging out at the pool, reading a book in the hammock under the gazebo or enjoying a relaxing massage. My wife and I stayed for four nights and can only highly recommend to stay at the Hummingbird when traveling to Bocas del Toro.

The Hummingbird Bed & Breakfast is a beautifully located property located steps from Bluff beach. The resort has only 6 units. The units are nestled on the edge of the jungle and only steps from beautiful Bluff beach. The accommodations featured a very comfortable bed with quality linens, a small refrigerator, umbrellas, water bottles, beach bag, and a decent sized bathroom with quality towels. The property itself is beautiful with hummingbirds dancing around a beautiful garden. In the background you hear the sounds of the seaside and the natural sounds of the jungle. We did not see any, but monkeys and sloths on occasion can be seen. We did see some beautiful tree frogs and lizards. The restaurant featured a limited menu but was lovely and the food was tasty and thoughtfully prepared. It should be noted the menu did change every couple days. Given there are only 6 units available, we appreciated the smaller array of offerings knowing that freshness and quality of the offerings was the focus. It was obvious to us this was the case. The service was very good - personal but not intrusive. In fact, we stayed at 5 different resorts during our vacation and this was the best by far. The real highlight for us staying here was the quality of the hosts/owners and staff of the resort. They are genuinely interested in seeing their guests have a great vacation and were helpful to us on multiple occasions making sure this was the case.
