Grand Hotel Menaggio

The room was a little on the small side, but comfortable and spotlessly clean, as was the whole hotel. All the staff including reception, porters, dining, bar, and chamber maids were lovely. The position overlooking the pool terrace and lake couldn't be better. The pool itself was fantastic. Breakfast overlooking the lake provided all one could want. Great situation next to ferry terminal with regular services to the likes of Bellagio and Varenna. We were part of a package, and I hope the company continues to use this hotel. We loved it!!

I am writing this review based on my unfortunate experience with both the front desk staff and the porter. After missing the last ferry, we asked for assistance in getting to the next ferry terminal, which was only 1 km away. We were told that the porter could help. However, as we walked to his car, he suddenly demanded 50 Euros for the ride. When we refused, stating that the price was unreasonable, he sneered and nonchalantly walked back to the hotel without offering any further assistance. We returned to the front desk, where the receptionist was completely unhelpful and dismissive, choosing to continue typing an email rather than address our concerns. It is disappointing that a hotel of this caliber employs staff who seem more interested in taking advantage of guests than offering genuine assistance. This kind of behavior cast a shadow over our entire trip. If you’re looking for friendly and accommodating service, I would recommend staying elsewhere.

My husband and I had the pleasure the celebrate our wedding at Grand Hotel Menaggio and it was an amazing experience. The staff is professionally prepared ( from the reception to the staff of the restaurant and the bar). The chef Francesco is incredibly talented and he prepared for us and our guests amazing food. Since the first meeting, he offered and showed his professionalism in meeting all our requests and this is an important aspect when you have to organize such an important event. A further aspect I would like to stress is that the wedding itself did not impact at all to the daily hotel activity; actually most of the hotel-guests were happy and delighted to see our celebration and came to congratulate us. The owner Ruggero and the front desk manager Angela were furthermore very helpful towards us as wife and husband and towards all the needs of all our guests. We really recommend this hotel for the attention to details and if you would like to spend some quality time with your beloved ones. Well, I also recommend to get the chance to organize your Wedding in such an amazing location as Grand Hotel Menaggio.

After paying over €650 a night for our room the service we expected was not forthcoming. On the first evening when we requested a bucket of ice via room service we were initially asked to collect it ourselves from the bar. Day two we were resting in the room after a long few days of travelling and when we asked for our room to be made up and cleaned, we were met by hostility from the housekeeper of the hotel. Of which the receptionist was witness to. Day three and our final day we woke to find the hotel was hosting a wedding. We left our room to take a drive around Lake Como to find that our car was completely blocked in by about 50 cars from the wedding guests. No prior warning was given about this. On return to the hotel after a walk we were faced with laminated signs by the elevator telling us that due to the “private event” in the hotel the restaurant was closed. Again no prior warning and no mention of a wedding being held at the hotel when we had checked in three days prior ! Upon returning to the room we phoned for room service, to be told that they could offer us nothing on our final night of our stay. Totally unprofessional. Our original booking was made in March 2024 and we booked an additional night a week prior to our visit. There was no mention of a wedding taking place at either of these points of booking. The response we had from the manager is as follows: Dears Paula & Hannes Martin , we apologize for all the inconveniences you had during your stay But we belive that hosting a wedding reception it 's not an inconvenience We are an Hotel and as in all the Hotels in the world it is possible to organize reception and party Guest can book room and breakfast ,the restaurant is an additional service We have advised our guests the day before, that the restaurant will be closed on Saturday We do not do room service at all , only for drinks from the bar , our rooms are not equipped for having lunch/dinner We are sorry that you had a bad experience of such a beautiful event which is the union of two persons who love each other Whit kind regards Angela Rava mana Please be aware of this Hotel. incredible location great pool and views, rooms and hotel have not been updated since …1970 , smart tv not connected to the internet, no coffee machine , arrogant staff , promised off street secure parking - not available, had a wedding that took up most of the hotel from paying guests , no notice provided , could not leave fast enough, what a massive disappointment especially given the price and was soooo looking forward to a bucket list experience, thx for nothing

I returned to the hotel after a few years and my experience continue to be positive. Soon after arrival at a car park we were greeted and our luggage was taken care of by the staff. The room wasnt ready however we were able to use the pool. Pre arrival emails were replied to promptly. Breakfast room has a beautiful view, overlooking the lake. Service and food is very good. Snack bar offer was limited but sufficient and the salad i had was nice in terms of taste and presentation. The pool setting was relaxing and overlooking the lake. The room was OK size, comfortable and equipped with the necessary amenities. Great location. I would happily come back to the Grand Menaggio hotel.

This is a great place to stay in Menaggio. In particular, the pool area has to be one of the best in the mid-lake region. The pool chairs are right on the water, with a fabulous view. The staff working the pool area and attached bar/lunch area were great. The rooms were clean and good sized and offered great views of the lake. It is right next to the ferry (but this did not disturb us at all), so very convenient for a trip to Belaggio or Varenna. And then a very short walk to the Menaggio town square, which is very charming. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly! We are very pleased that we stayed here!

Visited hotel as part off a package holiday. Room not the best it was in need of a good upgrade. We paid for Lakeview room but got a room overlooking a metal roof. Public rooms and outside areas were excellent. Staff very helpful. Access to hotel from road was down a number of steep steps.

4 star hotel fronting directly on the lake, with fine views. This is one of the few hotels in the area not separated from the lake by the very busy main road, a big plus point. Lofty and bright public rooms, a swimming pool in an attractive garden by the lake, a good bar and a decent restaurant complete the recipe for a relaxing stay. Rooms at the front face east over the water. Our rooms at the back overlooked the main road and the town beyond, not an unpleasant view. But traffic noise was a factor unless the windows were shut. Room decor was a bit worn and the bathrooms distinctly in need of refurbishment, though everything worked. Rooms at the front are probably smarter, for which of course one pays. There are two lifts, so getting up and down is quick. Or there is a wide staircase, for those who like to keep fit-86 stairs to the third floor. Menaggio is an attractive small town with some quaint back streets. The hotel is right by the ferry terminal, which is convenient for trips to Bellagio, Varenna, Como and elsewhere. It’s a good centre for exploring the area, particularly the nearby gardens, and Como. The staff are helpful, and will arrange excursions, water taxis etc
