The property is very well kept, large indoor pool area with hot tubs both inside and outside. Lovely lobby with coffee & hot chocolate. The room is very spacious with tons of drawers and 3 closets, enormous bathroom and sitting area with a beautiful view. The bedroom is up a flight of stairs, at the entrance there is plenty of space to change out of wet ski gear and leave it in the 2 closets. There is an elevator to the right that will bypass the stairs outside of the hotel to the village, the elevator to the left will lead to the parking garage, lockers, pool area and Lobby. It's a fairly short walk through the gorgeous village to an electric escalator that will leave you infront of Haymeadow? gondola. You could take that up and ski down to Centennial lift which will take you to all of the top lifts in that area of the mountain. There is a wonderful ski school to the right of the escalator, it's a nice place to learn how to ski because the trails are the widest I've ever seen, so there isn't any crowding. However the trails are somewhat steep, but not a problem when you learn to go side to side. At 3pm, Chefs in white show up with trays of fresh baked cookies and hand them out in the village and at the base of the lifts. I recommend having lunch in the village because it's so easy to get to and less crowded that the slope side restaurants. Also the menus are more diverse & the food much more delicious. Food will cost you a small fortune , We spent around $160 for lunch for 3 & $200+ for dinner with 2 entrees, 2 appetizers & 3 drinks. We loved Golden Eagle Inn restaurant for lunch & dinner, Hooked, the Met, and Black Diamond Bistro. Cayote cafe was ok for drinks. Didn't have any good guac in any of the restaurants we tried. The Ice rink is big and surrounded with sitting areas with fire pits, the place is just so cozy and inviting, they really pay attention to detail there and consumer comfort. The staff at St James are also lovely and accommodating . Highly recommend. There is a shuttle to Vail which takes 20 mins.
