Located on Oceanside in Isla Bastimentos, Bocas del Toro. Casa Serenity By The Sea: Tree Frog House is the highest Cabina on the property and sits amongst the tree tops in a jungle canopy. It has a Studio Loft layout with 320 sq ft of space on the lower level and 224 sq ft of space in the upper level. It has a King size bed upstairs and a Twin size Daybed in the Living Room. Our seaside property has crystal-clear water out front with a beautiful reef for snorkeling. It is within minutes of walking distance to local surf breaks and a 25min hike to the majestic Wizard Beach. We are next door neighbors with “Reggae Bites” and “The Firefly”. Both have excellent dining in a tropical setting on the water (but they are seasonal and cash only***). Other dining options are close by around the point in Old Bank. Chill in the hammock 70’ up on the front deck or in the hammock down by the water while listening to the lapping waves and tropical birds. The hammock out front is on carabiners and can be removed for full, unobstructed use of the circular meditation clearing (we highly recommend doing this during your stay). You can easily snorkel in the clear water directly off the property via the walk-out area. Beautiful coral heads and sea life are abundant on the reef that lines Oceanside (The water is particularly clear in the “Off-Season” months of May, Sept-November. When the waves are down…the Snorkeling is UP!!! REEF BOOTIES & REEF/LOBSTER GLOVES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) Multiple world class surf breaks on the nearby islands including Carenero Point and Paunch’s are visible from the property. Float your worries away out front while you watch epic sunsets in true paradise-style. AC and powerful fans have been installed inside and on the deck for comfort. A full kitchen is available for cooking meals with options for electrical or gas powered. Tea kettle and French Press are available for making coffee. Dimmable lighting has been installed inside and out for ambiance. The mattresses are 12" cooling gel memory foam accompanied by down pillows and 100% Bamboo linens. There is a table and bench system for dining. There is also a Ratan loveseat/chairs set and a coffee table on the deck. The beautiful furniture is made from repurposed Nispero and locally grown/hand-hewn Black Laurel wood. Go for a surf and get barreled in crystal clear water. Re-align yourself with nature in this very special place. Everything you really need is either right in front of you or a short boat ride away. ***Our Caretaker, Yeison, is a Basti local who grew up just minutes from Casa Serenity By The Sea. He lives on property in the middle cabina (Sea Glass House) and can help schedule assistance with local knowledge, boat excursions, and carrying luggage. (Please keep this to a minimum. You should come with the mindset of bringing only what YOU can carry to Basti!) Please tip the locals well for their services! ***Know where you are going. This is not a place for the weak of heart. There is a lot of hiking and there are no cars. This will not be for anyone with health or ambulatory issues. WATERPROOF HIKING SANDALS AND HEADLAMPS/FLASHLIGHT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Rolling luggage is NOT RECOMMENDED as the walking path you will be on is partly unpaved. This public walking path runs along the seashore and is the main point of access to all the waterfront properties. Sometimes there are sections that can get quite muddy when it rains so be prepared! Along with your flip flops we highly recommend WATERPROOF HIKING SANDALS AND HEADLAMPS! Rolling luggage is NOT recommended. We have (3) 2600L rainwater collection tanks. These feed the faucets and showers (we have one indoors and two outdoors) and is 4x filtered for our drinking water. We have a septic tanks and do not flush anything but human waste. Bidets have been installed to reduce paper waste. We recycle.Our Property has 3 Casitas. Our Caretaker Yeison lives in "Sea Glass House", which is the one in the middle. There may be guests staying at "Reef House" during your stay. The natural pathway/staircase is communal and you may run into other adventurous souls who have chosen to spend their time in Paradise. It's completely up t you how much you interact with the neighbors, but you are certainly not obligated. The Meditation Clearing/Outdoor Hammock by the water is also communal.Also...our property is surrounded by jungle foliage, but we do have neighbors. Please be respectful of their property and privacy. However, you will you will most likely find smiling faces with similar mindsets around you, and you may even meet a new friend! ***Wifi can be spotty in our remote location (especially during bad weather). NOT guarantee it will work full-time******The archipelago is connected to the mainland's power grid. Loss of electrical power may occur sometimes. However, it's usually back up in short order if it happens. Be advised that loss of power will affect the electrical water pump for the casita.******This is Old Bank...which is known for its vibrance and love of music. Sometimes they play it quite loudly! We are tucked away on the other side of the hill, but town is pretty close by. Enjoy the rhythms of the Caribbean as they drift across the island!***Also...going to Bastimentos is like stepping into another world...500 years of Afro-Caribbean culture and history resides here that is to be respected and admired. This mixes with the indigenous Naso Tjër Di & Ngäbe-Buglé tribes that have been here for thousands of years longer. The local dialect is Guari-Guari (a mix of Creole English Patois, Spanish, and Ngäbere), and no you won't understand it...but they speak Spanish and English as well. This is a small town with kids and free-range chickens and little lazy island pups roaming about. Terracing walking paths have been carved out of the hillside that the community have used for generations...this may put a spin on the ideology of "private property"...but it also connects the people to the island in a in a very grounded way. This is an eco-friendly house. We have a rainwater catchment system and solar panels that provide 12 volt electricity with an inverter for 110 volt electricity. There are fans in all the bedrooms and the sitting area. There is a water filter as well so no need to buy bottled water. Often you will see monkeys, sloths and hummingbirds around the property. Welcome to a one of a kind surrealist adventure retreat! Our house boasts being the most artistic and best built in all of Bocas. Eco-friendly, of course. Enjoy your very own white sand beach, shade from the palms and spectacular coral reef just outside your door. The house is three stories with incredible views of the Zapatillas islands from your front balconies and natural jungle views from the back ones. The house is breezy with its open layout and beach front location. We have an option to add daily housekeeping and our boat captain will be available to take you on any tours you’d like during your stay!The space:Make yourself at home with our fully stocked kitchen and purified drinking water that runs right from every sink faucet! The house is three stories with two bedrooms on the top floor and one on the second along with the kitchen and living area. The bottom floor is a giant covered patio that leads to the beach. There are two bathrooms. Both equipped with outdoor showers so you can enjoy the jungle or beach while you bathe yet still have ample privacy.Our house is stocked with snorkel gear, 2 two-seater kayaks, yoga mats + some workout weights for your use.Interaction with guests:Our care takers, Velimir + Fernando will be your points of contact during your stay. The house is yours to enjoy privately however, they will be available to take you on any tours or get supplies. They also are in charge of making sure all systems in the house are working great! For example, if it is a very rainy day, they may come by to start the generator to make sure you have ample power. Guests have access to the entire house and property minus the lower level studio which has its own private entrance. Don’t worry - The studio is unoccupied, so no one will interrupt your stay!The neighborhood:The Island of Bastimentos has much to offer!The house is located on a white sand beach near Salt Creek. The creek ends at a native village toward the interior of the island. This belongs to the Nobe tribe. The Nobe are your friendly neighbors and tourism helps their community grow and prosper. They are happy to show you around their community or take you on jungle hikes for a small fee that helps every family in the village.You can also walk down the beach and run into a couple other great resorts and stop by for a drink! Al Natural is known for their scuba expeditions and we'd be happy to set you up for a dive. Azul Paradise is open for drinks + dining with advanced notice. Please note: the island is full of life! You will have people and animals roaming the beaches. It’s part of our wonderful community and culture. Stop and say hi, buy the daily catch or a tasty coconut!Getting around:This is a remote island. The only way to travel is by boat. There are water taxis available while in Bocas Town or we are happy to arrange travel from our own boats as well. Pick up and drop off from Bocas airport is $160 round trip. We will take you to the grocery to stock up on supplies as well! The boat ride to Bay of the Floating Palms is approximately 30-45 minutes.Other things to note:Remember, this is island life - living off the grid! The whole house is run by solar power and the water is filtered rain water. You must shop in Bocas Town before you settle in. Our location is remote. Welcome to Casa del Cielo in the heart of vibrant, reggae vibe Old Bank, Bastimento. The house in the sky is surrounded by stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. Fall fast asleep to the lapping of waves from Firefly Beach. There are water taxis coming and going and surfers heading out to favorite destinations. Be as active or lazy as you want...we have hammocks waiting for you. Home to Wizard, Red Frog, and Polo...and just a water taxi to others. Built as a split level house with an open air living area with brand new patio furniture. There is a fully equipped kitchen and 2 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and guest bathroom. Even the back of the house has an incredible view. It rises above the town so there is privacy. Named Casa del Cielo (House in the Sky) , you walk up many steps to get to the house. *We recently built a new stairwell for your safety. The 2 bedrooms have full baths, A/C and televisions. There is good WiFi, drinking water, and hot showers. The kitchen has a gas stove, refrigerator and appliances for cooking your own meals. There is also a coffee maker, toaster, blender, and microwave. There are also mini fridges in the bedrooms as well as a guest bathroom downstairs.Bastimentos is a 10 minute boat ride to Bocas town, 10 minutes to famed wave “Silverbacks”, 20 minutes walking trail to Wizard Beach, and quick water taxi to Red Frog and Polo Beach. Take a tour of "Up in the Hill" the chocolate and coffee factory or explore Firefly Beach with it's rocky trails...you might find a perfect conch shell if you're lucky. *While Basti has a couple of Bodegas you should stop at one of the larger grocery stores in Bocas before coming over. There are Creole restaurants ,bars, and hostels. Lysette's and Alvin and Ketcha's are delicious and affordable. On the higher end is The Firefly, which is a wonderful waterfront dining experience. There is also a police station in the center of town so you will always feel safe. The locals are warm and friendly. This is a true Caribbean island with no big commercial enterprises. It is all geared to adventurous travelers.You have the entire house to yourselves! Marilin will show you the property and then their is access to a lock box at the front door. When you arrive in Bocas head to Lysette's at the dock for a beer and free Wifi to reach Marilin.Marilin is our amazing hostess and manager.
