1863 Restaurant with Rooms

Imaginative and very comfortable room with everything you could possibly need. Lavishly fitted out to a very high standard and with a great sense of fun. The only thing we would change would be the provision of low fat milk and yoghurt which as we know today has no useful health benefits and should we think be replaced with full fat versions.

We had the most amazing weekend at 1863; it really fulfilled all of our expectations after seeing the previous great reviews. This place is a real hidden gem - it is small with friendly, attentive staff so feels very welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. Restaurant staff are knowledgeable about the beautiful menu and wines. We will definitely be back, and would recommend to friends.

We had room 8 which is a lovely room with every detail thought of except the windows did not open and the underfloor heating was too hot with no control. The duvet was too thick and the mattress did not suit us. However the room is beautifully equipped and laid out . Dinner is a 3 course liitle choice affair and we felt the quality of the cooking was only ok..with the exception of my halibut which was top notch. Breakfast however was super. Overall too expensive for the total package but staff were lovely and maybe we are a bit picky but I want to give an honest review, otherwise there is no point. To us 6 out of 10.

Lovely mid week stay at the cosy 1863 in central Pooley Bridge, our room was very comfortable and clean lovely local toiletries, coffee and tea. We chose to have the three course meal the food was excellent the extra nibbles were a bonus. We asked for a Wine recommendation to go with lamb we loved it, thank you. We will be back

The staff were all welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful. Rooms were gorgeous and quiet. And the food, both breakfast and dinner, was top notch! Will definitely stay and dine again and would recommend as a lovely stopping point in a fantastic village.

Fantastic one night stay, lovely room and gorgeous food. Wish we could have stayed longer! We had the 3 course menu, cumbrian lamb in particular was delicious and the service was excellent. I can't rate the whole stay too highly. Will definitely be back if we are in the area again. Highly recommended

We have stayed here several times now, amazing food, staff are very knowledgeable on each course. Lovely a**osphere Rooms are beautifully decorated with some lovely touches, we stayed in room 8 which is a small apar**ent with every convenience you could ask for. We will return very soon.

We stayed overnight and had the 7 course taster menu. Firstly the staff were excellent and friendly and there was a very relaxed but efficient a**osphere. The room was faultless, spotlessly clean and wonderful linen and towels. Lovely dressing gowns were provided and the bathroom had wonderful shampoo, hand soap etc. A nice extra touch was finding our bill on the breakfast table, where the table number matched our room. Regarding the meal, I think all I really need to say its that, we have eaten in many Michelin Start and fine dinning restaurants and the food was equal to or better than many of them! All the courses were faultless, exceptionally tasty, well presented and all at the right temperature. It would be hard to chose any one that was the best and obviously the menu changes during the year so maybe not that helpful to list here. Obviously the portions are smallish but the whole point of fine dining is to appreciate the taste not the volume. Regardless of this we were quite full by the end of the meal and could not have eaten the cheese course even if we wanted it. We had a lovely conversation with the delightful owner over breakfast who explained the history of the property. We were lucky enough to visit The Old Stamp House just before it got its Michelin Star, We said exactly the same thing in our review of that restaurant as well.

We received a wedding gift for a 3 course meal which we were able to upgrade to the 7 course taster menu. We decided to stay the night too. The whole experience was brilliant, staff were really friendly the food was unreal and the room was lovely.
