Positives first before our rant! Great location, very close to Bardolino town centre. The balconies are nice. Two of the top room choices have sunbeds on them and the balconies get lots of sun! Guests can however use the lake front sunbeds in front of the Hotel Kriss. Very friendly check-in. Free water is provided downstairs if you fill up the glass bottles. We're big water drinkers so in the evening we tended to take up a bottle each to drink there and then and another bottle so that we didn't have to go downstairs to refill during the middle of the night. During the day we'd go downstairs and refill these bottles so that we always had plenty of water. Unfortunately there didn't appear to be a place for us to return any of the empty bottles so that they could be cleaned or used by other guests so the housekeeping team tended to remove them when they cleaned the room. If the staff only wanted us to use one bottle each they could have put up a sign by the bottles or created a clear space for us to place the empty bottles. One night upon returning from a lovely night out, the night receptionist (an old Italian guy) greeted us. As we filled up the bottles for the night he came over to check on us and then started grumbling and moaning at us for doing this. He humiliated us and made us feel like little school children. If we had spoken to somebody like that in our professions, we'd be dismissed. He was moaning quite aggressively about us having so much water and having other bottles upstairs. Considering we were paying a lot of money to stay in a top room for 9 nights, it shocked us to be spoken to like this. If the hotel don't want the guests to use that many bottles, put up a sign and let people know where guests can leave their used bottles. Simple. We went upstairs and then came downstairs to return any empty bottles we had in our room (which we would always have done had there been a facility to do so like there was in our previous hotel). We made a point of showing him that we had brought empty bottles down and then he was almost trying to apologize to us and explaining his point of view but then started moaning again about having to fill the dishwasher (is that all he has to moan about in his career?!). By then it was tough, he'd already spoilt a decent stay and a decent review. We were long term guests and would have expected to have been spoken to nicely even if we hadn't been but he was totally unprofessional and a kind of staff member that we have never come across on our travels. It left us with a sad memory about a lovely holiday. Now, because we were spoken to like this, we felt that we too should raise a few points about our stay that we may not otherwise have mentioned: Upon check-in: Toe/finger nails in the sink. Empty tissue box. Broken towel rail. Visibly dusty. We spent 9 days sneezing. Flashing lights on the ceiling might irritate light sleepers. Beautiful balcony but no seats to sit and enjoy a drink or the view. We
