Astala Lodge

Very attentive hosts, lovely view from the front of the building, over the harbour, very clean accommodation, really welcoming front to the building, nothing is a hassle to Julie & Steven. We had a really enjoyable stay very reasonable prices too.

Room for Improvement. We went to Bangor for an anniversary trip. When we checked in I was disappointed that we did not have a marine view ( make sure you ask when booking 😥) Our room was ok however the bed was very low and not all that comfortable. On top of that the window wouldn’t open. We were switched to a smaller room where the tv didn’t work.We were switched back to our original room because they were able to get the window opened. Breakfast was a very basic continental and served only instant coffee! On the plus side there is a lift and there are some nice pubs/ restaurants within walking distance.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The guest house was immaculate and welcoming. In a great position in Bangor, walking distance to restaurants and bars. Had a great night sleep and lovely breakfast in the morning. The bar was comfortable and lots of pleasant guests to chat to during the afternoon and evening. Got the impression from owners that they were happy to help you offering tea and drinks.

Made to feel very welcome at Astala Guest House. Comfortable room and big bathroom. Nice breakfast with lovely views across the harbour. Good location for local bars and restaurants, and also beside the coastal walkway with great sea views. Close to sea swimming areas too.

I do not know how this hotel is staying in business. The room was fine. The location was perfect. However the customer service is terrible. We were in town for a swim gala. We discussed with reception having breakfast at 7am so that my daughter could eat before the gala. At 7am we went to the dining area and there was not a single staff member. We had to leave for the gala so my poor daughter did not have breakfast beforehand. I came back an hour later thinking I could get something to go. There was still not a single staff member in the hotel. I did not know how to check out. Other hotel patrons were also wondering around and confused. I put the key on a desk and left. I called the hotel later that evening and the person I spoke to (I’m assuming the owner or manager. He was the one who had told me breakfast would be ready at 7am) was unaware that there had been no breakfast. He was unaware whether my keys had been received. The place very well may still be unstaffed. No compensation was offered. Do not stay here.

Only problem was the , really noisy bathroom,ever when water running,the noise would have woke the hole house ,other than that was great

Very nice. Locality just right , lovely view. Fish and chips, really good.

A great place to stay and we were really well looked after by the staff.A beautiful room looking onto the Marina with a comfortable bed, couldn't ask for more.Thanks once again.

Not great. First of all the bathoom had not been properly "done" since the previous guests' departure. There was shower gel running down the tiles and only a very limited amount in the dispenser. The shampoo dispenser was empty. There was only a quarter of a loo roll! Only one tea bag and the mugs were tiny. Then the bed - the smallest double bed I ever saw, more akin to a single which was not great for two middle aged people one of whom is a bit big! Kept waking up as I was afraid I would fall out. I mentioned this to the lady whom I left my key with when leaving but she just shrugged. Once anyone in the building used the showers it could be heard in our room, luckily I always bring earplugs with me or this could have been a major problem! All in all I cannot say that I would recommend the Astala. They say its 3 star but I would only give it 2 at the most.
