Tunnel Mountain Village 1 Campground

Nice campground, just a few kilometers from down-town Banff. Shuttles available. Close to amazing hikes such as the Hoodoos. Lots of trees so good shade. Plenty of room around and quiet, but we chose carefully our spot, as far away as possible from the Trans-Canada highway. Staff is very nice. Showers are free but dirty. We stayed 10 days and the showers remained as dirty with hair and clogged drain from day 1 to last. However toilets were clean. Area for dish-washing available.

This was the first stop on our 3 months trip. Banff is beautiful. Very busy so book ahead for things. Campground was nice. Great trails and FREE campfire wood. Go and load up. Kids loved loading up the truck. Close to town but downhill to Banff downtown and up hill back to campsite

The campsite itself was lovely. Surrounded by trees that led to a large path with views of the surrounding mountains and, at night, the stars. The facilities were excellent too. But how to make sense of Canada placing the campgrounds of its premier national park right into the crooked turn of the Trans-Canada highway? At night, the trucks were readily audible. The night before, when we stayed in downtown Banff, the later evening and night were virtually silent.

We decided to go to tunnel mountain village 1 this summer and spend some time in Banff. We just ate in restaurants so we did not cook at our campsite to save money on hotels. When we got to our site it was quite dirty and we didnt check our firepot because of the fire ban that was on last week. The 2nd day of our stay we recieved a notice on our picnic table stating oursite was left in unacceptable conditionand there was food in our firepit. This was from the previous campers and we didnt notice it since we weren't having a fire. The washrooms are way too small and definitely need updating. Not enough showers for each camp section.

The campground was clean, bathrooms well kept and free showers! We had some issues with the number of tents we had, even though it was very specifically prediscussed at the gate before entering. Cell phone service was not good and there were no fire pits in our section but there were in every other letter
