WHAT AN INCREDIBLE PLACE! A must visit in Sri Lanka! Let me break it down for you... Sumith's place is absolutely magical. The surroundings are stunning, the sunrise views are fantastic and the whole place is so peaceful. Sumith isn't just offering an airbnb, hes offering an authentic experience, bespoke tours to show you around his local tea plantations, waterfalls and other points of interest. The whole area is completely unspoiled and shows you another side of Sri Lanka. (No tourists ;)) The place, the people, the scenery, the food - it's all fantastic. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner here both days and every meal was delicious, defintley recommed the chicken for dinner! The A frame is beautifully constructed and so impressive. Comfy beds, super clean and cool. It's amazing what Sumith has created here in this little oasis. As you can read from all the reviews, this place is truly unmissable. Although it's a little out of the way, it is SO SO SO worth it! P.s super safe as a solo traveller. I felt very looked after by Sumith and his team! Book it! 😄 can't wait to go back!

It was a great experience. Wonderful view from the rooms. This place gives you so much privacy, feels like your own place in middle of nowhere. We had the entire lobby area just for us. Sumith was an excellent host. He did everything possible to make our stay memorable. Food is world-class. We loved the whole menu. The Backyard - Balangoda is the best place, if you want to spend 3 - 4 nights' real holiday away from rest of the world.

Wow! We absolutely love The Backyard. We were running very late and Sumith kept Intouch to ensure we could have dinner when we arrived. The place is an architects dream! Actually it’s Sumith’s dream. He designed it and helped build it from scratch. The main house is brilliant with a lovely bar area and seating. Everything is triangular. The building, the light fittings, even the decor. The chalet is something else. The morning views are to die for as you watch the morning mist roll through the valleys. It is set within his own tea plantation and he has his own brand of tea. Unfortunately we left our bag of tea when we departed, but he happily posted it to our final destination so it can come home with us! There is plenty of parking (we arrived in our hired Tuktuk) and the garden is immaculate. Dinner was super good, needed after a long journey there. Sumith is a super host and really cares about your well-being. We hope to both return someday to this amazing place. Thank you for an amazing stay.
