Maison Otis

We stayed at the hotel for one night. We had rented 2 rooms: one for an elderly person, the other for a couple. Pros: 1) great location, 2) easy access to many restaurants and shops, 3)comfortable beds and clean linen, 4) clear instructions for accessing parking, building and rooms. Cons: 1) the building has no elevator so it’s not accessible for people with reduced mobility. There is no mention of this on their website so we took this for granted. My mother has great difficulty getting to the 2nd floor and didn’t join us for dinner as she couldn’t tackle the stairs for a second time in the same day. Had the fact that there was no elevator been made clear, we would have asked for rooms in first floor. 2) No soap in the both bathrooms for handwashing and shower. 3) In one bathroom, no shampoo just conditioner. In the other, just shampoo and body wash. 3) In both rooms, lamps either broken or burned-out lightbulbs. 4) Cleanliness is basic. Very big dust bunnies in corners and under furniture we had to move to plug in a lamp because turn-on switch was broken. 5) No free breakfast - contrary to Trip Advisor mention. All in all, great price and great location but room upkeep and cleanliness was lacking as was information on no elevator. The fact that there is no reception or cleaning service during stay was made clear at time of booking and wasn’t a problem for us.

Awful service. Do not go there ! Beds were not done for all stay. Cleaning is awful (carpets are dirty, shower is dirty, etc.). A client before us reported issues in our room on Google reviews. Upon arrival, same issues had been left unaddressed. One of our room key card was not functioning. We were told we would get a new one. We never had it. In a nutshell, despite this had been a great place in the past, since the new owners took over, it's a disgrace and a place to avoid. So many other nice spots to stay in Baie St-Paul, for your own sake, avoid the Maison Otis.

If you opt to stay here, make sure to read the fine print. This is an unmanned hotel. There is no staff on site and they are not accessible by phone either. (That was my experience.) You need an entry code to access the foyer where they will place your room keycards. We were apparently supposed to receive an email with specific instructions including the entry code, but we never received it. Three other couples staying there at the same time had a similar experience. One person was able to get the code by replying to the confirmation email that said not to reply. Our room, once we were able to access it, was actually pretty great. The space was extremely generous and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and the location was perfect. By the way, the restaurant Tavola is closed, though there is a Mexican restaurant, Kahlo, that is part of the hotel building.
