Comfortable, friendly and surprisingly luxurious in some ways! We arrived in Arusha 3 nights early before an OAT trip, and spent those nights at Arusha Safari Lodge before joining our group at a different lodge. We were very happy to have stayed there. We (my wife and I and a travelling companion) had two "rooms" (they're really rather spacious standalone cottages) facing the swimming pool. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the bed seemed larger than a US king-sized bed. If I were to go again (I'd love to, but there are so many other places to see in life) I'd ask for the same rooms again. The staff (especially the manager, Faith, and the receptionist, Lotha (who doubled as a tour guide for us on the third day), were terrific. The food (especially one candlelight dinner during a blackout - they were upgrading the electrical system while we were there and couldn't switch to generator until a couple of hours later) was quite good. We did tours in the area during the daytime using other resources (Tours by Locals and Viator) the first two days, but both days we then thoroughly enjoyed having a glass of wine before dinner while sitting at the pool. On the third day the receptionist, Lotha, took us for a 3.5 hour morning walking tour of the grounds (it used to be a colonial-era polo club!) and the surrounding village. This included a stop at an informal school (go!) and a marvelous introduction to real life in the area. If that walk is still offered, it's highly recommended. Actually, the only negative i can think of is the road to the lodge; long, unpaved and unmaintained, it is in such bad condition that I was quite surprised when a non-four-wheel-drive vehicle actually got through (albeit very, very slowly and carefully). This was a lucky find.
