Otira Stagecoach Hotel

This is a unique experience. It’s a step back in time as well as a tribute to the passion and vision of the owner. If you are fascinated by social history and ephemera - and you want an experience that’s not some bland modern soul less hotel, then you will love this. Photo opportunities are everywhere! We stayed in the Richard Seddon room - Just as pictured on the website. We loved the bar and generous wine pours. The coal fire was magnificent. The hotel manager, a multi tasker, who encouraged us to try the pianola, the hats, the juke box. It may look like a museum but you stay in it! Dinner and breakfast was ‘home cooked’. Nothing flash. Loved the wedges !

Stayed there for a night; Yes at 1st glance it looks 'different' and once you go inside it looks a 'mess' but with all the fantastic pieces they have in there is what makes it interesting, loved to check out the unusual things they have and not so unusual, its a collectors' dream. Once you are shown to the rooms they are very well kept and CLEAN .(photos posted ) Sam is a terrific host and a wonderful person, made us feel very welcome and like part of a family, the food there was great and not a problem and the portion was large that it was more than enough for 2 (l also shared some chips with a couple at the next table , who also shared one meal between 2 ) It started to rain when we got there; a bikie turned up and asked to buy some smokes as his got wet but Sam offered some of her own to the guy FREE shows you the kind of person and hospitality you get from there , Back to the hotel... bathrooms are clean, one was a little rundown but as we only stayed a night it wasn't a problem, there is also a tea room upstairs for guests . The wi-fi was fast and good... I seriously don't know what the other bad reviews were about but l would happily stay there again...

Quirky cafe....had a lamb chop, chips, frozen mixed veges. Chop...think shoulder was tender. Tomato sauce freely available. Easy free parking . One off cafe experience. Was like stepping back in time . Stunning views. Carpark had a clean bathroom for public use

Stopped in today to check this place out. Interesting..yes sure... However! The half eaten scone on the shelf, the empty beer bottles everywhere and the huge pile of empty beer boxes at the "bar" were enough to make us turn around and run. The place feels dirty and smelt terrible. I would avoid this place sorry!!!

Honestly this was amazing had my 60th Birthday there it was all a surprise my sister and friends turned up to had a fantastic weekend, Sam n Lester were bloody brilliant they made our weekend, they were so accommodating and so lovely, had the best time.loved the history of the items they had in the hotel. Just a perfect time,will definitely go back food was perfect, everything just great. Very quirky but brilliant x so interesting. Honestly go and see for yourself, it's worth it. Thank you again Sam n Lester you made my weekend. Sorry it's taken so long to write a review I've just worked out how to do it. Xxxxx so much history in this place xx

Perfect location from Christchurch for the start of a road trip. Host Lester provided impeccable personalised service-the best of our entire trip. Fascinating antique/museum items that you could actually pick up and handle. Hotel restored wonderfully. Wish we had a few more days to explore it all. And all the extras on top! - food was prompt and great, a parrot that talked, a massaging lounge, free breakfast, and a comfy bed. Thanks so much Lester! From Sandra and Leanne in Australia :)
