Amsterdam Wiechmann Hotel

This sweet hotel is not fancy but very charming in a canal house overlooking Prinsengracht canal. This was a perfect base to explore the city with no need for transportation. We were so lucky and got the only balcony in the hotel. We were there for Kings Day, and it was a great spot to witness the sea of orange from above. The breakfast was perfect before heading out. This hotel is convenient to the Jordaan (20 minutes) Nine Steets shopping (across the street), and the Houseboat museum. Highly recommend!

The thing I liked the most about this hotel is the location on the canal. The hotel is very tired and in need of some updates, like the rug on the stairs, furniture, and decorating... the creepy, antique doll can be removed from the sitting room. The breakfast is average with the very basic provided. The staff is not super nice or helpful, so it was best not to ask them a question. They only clean or change the sheets in our case on the 4th day. We had to ask for fresh towels and toilet paper every other day. They had a free coffee and tea machine in their sitting room. Since it is an old building, be prepared to carry your luggage up the steep stairs, and they don't have anyone to help with the luggage. In our case, all of what I described about the hotel cost us about $330/ night. They are located on the same street as Anne Frank's house. In the area of the hotel there are many restaurants and easy to find pretty good food. It is more of a residential area. Just about everything is about a 20-minute walk.

This was such a disapointment. Rugs torn on the stairway. Legs on bed frame worn and frazzled. Bathroom shower frame rusty. No face washers or hand towels. Bad mismatched decor. The only thing good about Weichmann Hotel was location. Very pricey. Averaged out to $700AUD a nite for 2 people and I thought I was going to get something special. They only posted the good bathrooms with no pictures of the outdated and very worn bathrooms. I had to double-check after my stay on whether I was getting ripped off or not. I suppose they overcharged because I was there on Australia's school holidays, because I look for May and its $1000 cheaper for 4 nites. What a ripoff!

My daughter and I spent a few nights at this hotel and had a lovely time. Really great location - lots right around and not far from trams for more exploring. We got a top floor twin room and it was fine - decent amount of space and very clean. The stairs were indeed part of the adventure but we knew that ahead of time. I would assume this is true for any older buildings, but it was quite noisy and you could hear the next room and anyone going up or down the stairs outside our door so if you are noise sensitive you might want to be ready for that. Everyone was really kind, the cold breakfast had lots of options and the coffee/tea in the lounge was very much appreciated.

Lovely authentic hotel on the edge of a canal. The rooms are quite old but very clean and comfortable. Wonderful canal views and close to everything you need. A nice continental breakfast was a bonus. Very old "Dutch" staircase! I loved this but if you have lots of heavy luggage this hotel wont be for you! Really recommend this hotel, we had a wonderful two night stay. There's no kettle in the room which is the only downside but still leaving 5 star review

The Wiechmann Hotel, is well located, within 20 minutes walk to The Royal Palace, Van Gogh Museum and Rembrandt Square.The hotel is three Dutch houses that have been amalgamated together, it has a wondeful quirky feel. We had 3 rooms,in all three buildings, starting with the one house on left of the picture.My Ist floor double reached by steep stairs, middle 2nd floor twin, very steep stairs and finally on the right, 3rd floor twin, extremely steep stairs.This was not a problem as the website clearly states that this is a traditional Dutch building with steep and narrow stairs, with no elevator.Personally I thought it added to the charm of the hotel. Check-in was smooth and the receptionist was warm,friendly/helpful and welcoming, as were every member of staff, that we encountered during our stay. My Double was cosy, I slept well,there was iron, ironing board, plenty of room to hang my clothes, a very small free safe(enough room for passports/money,jewellery) a tv, which I didn't use.There are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room but there is a free machine on the ground floor, bottled water has to be paid for.My shower had plenty of hot water plus the usual shampoo/ bodywash/etc and was clean/tidy. The continental breakfast was taken in a room overlooking the canal(great for watching the various cyclists passing by) and was plentiful,consisting of cereal/pastries/cheese/meats/fruit/rolls etc plus a conveyer toaster and hot and cold drinks. We thoroughly enjoyed our short break to Amsterdam and the Wiechmann Hotel was a large part of that, I'll have no hesitataion in staying here if or when I return to the Netherlands Capital.
