Excelente e completo de serviço, mesmo numa época baixa em que se poderia supor uma diminuição na qualidade e disponibilidade de serviços. Antes pelo contrário!! Amabilidade e disponibilidade total, assim como o funcionamento das instalações. Uma experiência a repetir, talvez numa outra época do ano.

1. I am not sure if it is ok for 4* hotel to have a room as in photos (rabbish bin, towels, doors, bathroom tiles...). We stayed at 3* hotel in Sintra before coming here and 3* hotel was much more clean and with a great attitude towards the clients. 2. Room 443. We stayed for 2 nights. Right after check in (3:00 p.m.) we found WI-FI is not working. Talked to the person at the registration and heard the promise that soon the problem will be fixed. Unfortunately after coming back from exploring around in the evening (~10 p.m.) the situation was the same - no WI-FI. Again - talking to the administrator who promised that the problem will be solved tomorrow. Evening of the next day - no WI-FI. As we stayed only for 2 nights, we decided to leave it as it is and didn't talk to the registrators to hear the promises and lies again and again... P.S. I guess problems with WI-FI could be common in that room as it is in the end of the long corridor.

If you like hard beds,poor air con and although complained 4 times and couple attempts to fix still not working so gave up ! no tea coffee in room standard in 4* hotel not here. Tired looking hotel with basic facilities. Very poor evening entertainment which consists of a singer sitting on a stool belting out stuff… rooms need redecorating. Pool bar boring food limited. Most of the staff ok the best was our housekeepers done brilliant job. Gardens nicely kept and pool ok although salt water. Sun beds good availability. Go to harbour nice food there. Kids club is laughable do nothing apart from colouring in and they don’t speak English… the hotel allows anyone in and out so be mindful the gate at the beach not monitored… 3 * at best spa . The best way to sum up this holiday we enjoyed it and had a good break as we made it so however what you get here is the minimum effort …..

Excellent hotel. Great location and very friendly staff. Lovely pool area with plenty of sun beds. We only stayed b & b so can’t comment on the food apart from breakfast which was buffet style and had plenty of choice. I would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

This is my 2nd time back to Pestana Dom Joao. From the second we arrived we received such a warm friendly welcome. Throughout our stay the staff are just amazing, very friendly and always took time to speak to me and my daughter. They couldnt do enough for us. The hotel is spotless, the rooms are ideal and very comfortable. Housekeeping do an incredible job and always done a nice touch arranging my daughters teddies, giving a home from home touch. The breakfast is delicious and a huge choice of food to choose from. In a great location the beach just on the doorstop and a beautiful 10 min walk along the boardwalk will bring you to the harbour. You can't go wrong

The hotel has a lovely position right on the edge of the ocean. The grounds and pool area are immaculate and well cared for. The gate at the bottom or the gardens lead to the beach and walkways. The 2 outside pools were too cold to use in November although some hardy souls did brave a dip. There was also a gym which was well equipped. The room we had was a good size with a balcony that looked out on the car park and road and out over Alvor. The air con/ heating worked well when needed. The bed was very comfortable. The rooms were kept immaculately clean. A safe was provided as standard and there was a decent fridge. Coming out of the lift on each floor, there were chairs and a settee where people could sit and watch the ocean and the sunsets, read or play cards or join with other guests for a chat. The piece de resistance of the stay was the breakfast buffet. Everything you could possibly want was available - cereals, breads, pastries, cheese, hams, fresh fruits, yogurts, freshly cooked eggs to order and full cooked breakfast items. Fruit juices, Spumante and 3 coffee machines took care of refreshments. We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside for breakfast every morning. Staff were always approachable and helpful and the whole place was very welcoming. Would definitely return to this hotel if coming to Alvor and would recommend it highly.

Second stay at the hotel,situated perfectly beside the beach.Pool area is lovely and great amount of sun loungers not just beside pool but in the gardens plus pool bar with seating in the shade.Then very short walk through back gate to beach and boardwalk. Rooms are spotless,staff are lovely and helpful from reception,to bar,restaurant and housekeeping. Just had B&B stay and there is a great selection for breakfast enough for everyone's taste. Alvor town centre is a lovely 20min walk on the boardwalk

Where do I start, this hotel is definitely not a 4 star, more like a 3 star at best. The rooms need updating, beds are hard and extremely uncomfortable, the cleaners gave us a bath towel with a big hole in it, they don’t use bin liners in the room bins so they’re all rusty. The balconies are tiny and dirty. We booked a deluxe sea view room with EasyJet and were allocated room 228, which had a view of a busy main road and derelict tower blocks and run down villas to the left and a side sea view to the right with a run down crazy golf course that had seen better days! Thank goodness we only booked B&B as the food was terrible, very little choice and the same 3 fruits every day: oranges,tinned fruit cocktail and melon. The same fried eggs, pancakes and omelettes every day,smoked fatty bacon placed on top of sliced bread which contaminated it for the ceoliacs and inedible bright red sausages. The water from the drinks machine was lukewarm at best and the breakfast room was absolute chaos between 8.30am and 10.00am. We nicknamed this hotel Faulty Towers. The saltwater swimming pool was also freezing cold.Its only redeeming features were its close proximity to Alvor beach and its gardens. In summary I would say avoid at all costs, Pestana seem like a cost cutting budget hotel brand, they could learn a lesson from the Portobay Hotel Group!
