Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino

Prairie Meadows Hotel & Casino is a decent spot for a weekend stay, but a few things stood out—both good and not-so-good. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ We stayed here in September for a wedding and were lucky enough to get our room upon arrival (which was earlier than check-in time). However, other guests had to wait a while, so not everyone was as fortunate. Our room was comfortable but could use an update—definitely showing some wear and tear. The cleaning staff was incredibly prompt and efficient. They came in to clean our room right at 11:03, which was a bit surprising since we usually take advantage of late checkout, but it wasn’t a big deal. The real highlight was the Cafe downstairs—delicious breakfast food with great service. Even though we’re not big gamblers, we played at the Craps table for a while and had fun. The staff throughout the hotel and casino were friendly and helpful. Overall, we’d give our stay 4 out of 5 stars and would recommend it for anyone visiting the Altoona area. This is a wonderful place to go with family. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, and the racetrack is a blast! So convenient to be able to walk to the horse races, grab a bite to eat on the way and end the night at the casino! We love it here and will be back!

If you need a little ime away, Prairie Meadows is a great choice with good food, entertainment and time in the casino,atMany other nearby attractions as well. Our room was clean and tidy. It smelled clean and the si gle serve coffee pot was also appreciated. Thanks for making our stay GREAT

My sister and I got married in a double wedding 50 years ago and due to family obligations decided on a small trip to celebrate. We live near KC Mo. We chose to go to Prairie Meadows Hotel in Altoona Iowa. A great choice! The staff is so nice and helpful and when my daughter told them we were celebrating our 50 th anniversary they upgraded both our rooms to these wonderful suites!! Everything looked so new. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel and we will definitely go back. Thank you Altoona staff from the maids to the front desk you were all awesome!!

Spent one night (Sunday) at the hotel in order to attend the horse races. Had a junior suite on the 4th floor. Booked directly with the hotel for about $200. The rate included breakfast. The floor had just been refurbished and the room was beautiful and spacious. I did not expect much from a "free" breakfast, but it was great. Steak and eggs and perfect hash browns. Looking forward to a return trip.

We were given 3 different prices. When we checked out we wanted to pay cash. We were told the “new” director had goofed up our reservation and the price he had as a total was $68.22. We all knew this was a mistake however there was no way to correct the director’s mistake. The next day we received a call and, because they had our card on file, they were charging our card for their mistake. We had no option but to pay.
