Alodia

Alquezar is well preserved medieval town in the mountains of Aragon and is recognized as one of 50 most beautiful small towns in Spain. The small hotel Alodia has two separate locations and we stayed in restored building on Arrabal street near the entrance to the village. Parking is restricted in this ancient town so you will need to drive your car down the narrow streets, drop off your luggage near the hotel, and park your vehicle in a lot just outside the town. Fortunately, the hotel advised use to use the 'residents only' road and parking lot. Our building was reached by climbing up a moderately steep street and the hotel attendant Jose Luis helped us lug our luggage to our room on the upper level. The hotel has an elevator that is certified to carry luggage only, so be prepared to walk up many stairs during your stay here. These stairs include the spiral staircase that led from our bedroom to the bathroom. Eventually, we became accustomed to climbing up a level to use the toilet and sink. However, we were careful to place small battery-operated candles on the steps so we did not trip and fall in the darkness. The view from our balcony was fabulous. The former Moorish castle and now church of Santa Maria looms over the city and is illuminated at night. There are several small and excellent restaurants within walking distance in this small and tourist oriented town. Just be sure to watch for local residents driving their cars down the steep, narrow, and medieval streets. Breakfast here is a treat. An employee will roll a cart to your door containing brewed coffee, hot milk, sliced meats and cheese, croissants and toast, plus fresh orange juice and fruit. The small town of Alquezar attracts outdoor enthusiasts who come to hike the trails and explore the beautiful river canyons. This hotel is well suited for people who are physically active.

We booked a room with a balcony and it was honestly so worth it. The view it offers over the village is magical and it made a really special setting for breakfast (brilliant btw) and drinks in the evening. The room was spotless and the bed was extremely comfortable. We’d definitely return.
