We recently returned from a 10-night honeymoon stay at Domes Aulus Elounda, and overall, it was a memorable and enjoyable experience—with a couple of speed bumps along the way that are worth noting for future guests. Arrival & Check-in We booked via TUI, and the coach transfer from the airport took almost 3 hours total, with multiple hotel stops and a mid-way change from coach to smaller minibus. If your budget allows, I’d highly recommend a taxi (approx. €100 each way) to start your holiday on a more relaxing note. The return transfer was thankfully quicker, around 1.5 hours due to fewer stops and an early morning departure. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the lovely Melina, who gave us a seated check-in with refreshments while thoroughly explaining the hotel’s layout and amenities. We were also provided with a cold plate sandwich as we had missed the evening food offer due to our long transfer time. Our bags were taken by car up to our room in the meantime, another thoughtful touch. Room Experience We booked the Sapphire Zen Suite with private balcony pool, this provided access to the 'VIP' Cool Living package. The room images showed a very private, beautiful sea view, privacy was our main reason for booking this room and package for our honeymoon. Our initial room fell short of expectations for this. The layout was a bit awkward—with the toilet, bath, and shower in three separate spaces—and storage was surprisingly limited. The private pool was narrow, unheated, and seriously lacked privacy, being directly beside a busy walkway and road. However, after raising our concerns, we were moved to a different room that truly elevated our stay: slightly more spacious, better laid out, and with a breathtaking view that completely changed the tone of our holiday and complete privacy. I cannot underestimate how this changed our experience, if we had to remain in this first room, we would be talkin a 2 or 3 star experience. Honeymoon Package This is advertised on the website as room decorated with flowers, a bottle of sparkling wine and seasonal fruit on arrival, one spa treatment per couple and your first breakfast served in your room. It requests a marriage certificate on arrival to prove you are on your honeymoon. The room was decorated with rose petals and we received the spa vouchers upon check in. We were not asked for a marriage certificate so I wouldn't worry about this, we only got married two days prior to arrival and did not yet have one. There was no bottle of sparkling wine or fresh fruit in the room however which was disappointing. The breakfast in bed—supposed to be a romantic first-morning treat—we were told wasn’t available until Friday (we arrived Tuesday), which felt confusing given 24/7 room service option for breakfast. After persistence and involvement from Chryssa, the lovely Guest Relations Manager, we eventually received it. Noise & Sleep Quality Our first room was noisy—highlighted by a 1am screaming match upstairs
