The Charlotte Hotel & Restaurant

Looks like a nice place, but - be aware of fraudulent activities by The Charlotte Hotel & Restaurant management. Dishonest people! Make sure you are aware and prepared to deal with poor service, dishonest management and questionable staff. Stay away from this place!

Took the love of my life to the Charlotte Hotel for the second time & this visit was even more special than the last. She had the ultimate birthday weekend. I purchased the romantic package & they went above & beyond! The hotel has awesome displays of unique art, drawings, paintings, etc. Hospitality is top notch. You cannot be disappointed here!

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at The Charlotte. The hotel is quaint and charming. We arrived with a warm welcome and instructions for self check in. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious. The manager went above and beyond to meet our needs and was very personable and nice to chat with. We highly recommend.

This is a local hotel that has comfortable rooms. I was in a queen + full room with a decent sized bathroom. Don’t expect a great night sleep as the walls are paper thin. You’ll hear the people below you cough all night and the person next door start their shower. It is historic so expect grandfathered amenities. Like a chairlift on stairs. And use of physical key that is always hard to figure out how to lock and unlock door. But it is part of the “charm” of being on eastern shore. And it is walking distance to all things in Onancock. We arrived at 8:30 at night and did shelf check in (note on desk telling us room number to simply go in).

Further information. A couple of hours after we checked ourselves in, I went downstairs and a young woman was at the desk.I asked her about the chair lift, knowing we would have to negotiate the 37 steps after returning from dinner. She fiddled with the lift but it did not budge or make a sound. She said she would make some calls. When we left for dinner she said she was waiting to hear back about the lift. I hoped it would be operational and there would be a note with instructions on it when we got back from dinner. At around 9 we returned and there was no information on how to operate the chair on the counter or on the chair. Very disappointing.

This hotel was quite disappointing. Due to an accident, I was in a special foot device. I could get around, but with difficulty. We had made our reservation before my foot situation. My husband both emailed and called the hotel to ask for a room on the lowest floor so I wouldn't have to climb stairs. He was informed that the lowest rooms were on the second floor, but they were all reserved -- we had a reservation too but had been assigned to the third floor (why they couldn't just swap us for someone with a reservation they had assigned to the second floor isn't clear). They said I would only have to confront stairs between the second and third floors since there was a chair lift between the first and second floors. When we arrived, there was an envelope telling us how to find our room on the third floor --no human being was there to greet us or help us. The chair lift was either broken or we couldn't figure how to work it --there were no instructions on the device. We called the 800 number provided for help, but the person on the other end had no idea that there was a chair lift, but said she would check and someone would call us back. When we left for dinner, there was person on duty, but she couldn't make the chair lift work either. No one ever called us back. Bottom line -- I had to climb up and down 37 steps to go to and from the room. It was slow and painstakingly difficult. I'll never return ... the lack of customer service was shocking.

My wife broke her foot a month ago. I called a day before our planned arrival to ask for a lower level room so she would have as few stairs as possible. I was told our room would be on third floor and no second floor rooms were available, BUT “there is a chair lift from floor 1 to 2.” Arrived at hotel. No personnel are here. Can’t get chair lift to work. Called the help number and person who answered knows nothing about it. Nobody has called back in an hour. Susan hobbled up 2 long flights of stairs.

We recently visited the Eastern Shore for our anniversary and spent the first couple of nights in the lovely waterfront village of Onancock. Having never been there before, we were lucky enough to select the Charlotte for our stay. The hotel is nicely renovated, but still has its historic charm. Room was comfy and quaint, with a very good AC unit (thankfully...it was near 100F both days). Location was great, in center of downtown, with only a short walk to waterfront. Brunch was delicious and very reasonably priced. The proprietors were friendly, helpful, and service was great. We would definitely stay there again if ever back in the area.

A quaint and welcoming inn, in a scenic waterfront town. Great service (we loved Cheyenne) and wonderful breakfast. Clean rooms and free WiFi service. Comfortable bed and a very clean bathroom. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
